Nutritional Evaluation of Azolla pinnata and Azolla microphylla as Feed Supplements for Dairy Ruminants

نویسندگان

چکیده

Azolla is an aquatic plant that has the potential to be used as animal feed due its high nutritive value and very productive plant. Thus, objectives of this study are determine compare nutrient mineral composition pinnata microphylla. A. microphylla plants have a introduced new alternative supplement ruminants. Samples were collected at Ladang Lembah Kaprima Hulu Seladang, Tenox Agribusiness (M) Sdn Bhd, Kampung Setiu, Terengganu. The samples dried ground before analysed by using proximate analysis microwave digestion for Induced Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES). Six parameters measured analyses which dry matter, ash, crude protein, ether extract, fibre nitrogen-free extract. compositions analyzed contents copper, zinc, iron, calcium manganese ICP-OES. result shows contains highest protein extract content compared pinnata. As in composition, showed there significant differences (p < 0.05) between two plants. This revealed more suitable dairy ruminants it terms higher essential ruminant diet.

Chemical Composition and the Feeding Value of Azolla (Azolla pinnata) Meal for Egg-Type Chicks

Biochemical and nutritional studies were carried out to evaluate the potential of Azolla (Azolla pinnata R. Brown) meal, AZM, as a feed resource in the diet of egg-type chicks. In a completely randomized design, 30 two weeks old Nera brown chicks were assigned to each of the four dietary treatments containing 0, 5, 10 and 15% azolla meal. Chemical analysis indicated that azolla meal contained (...

Polyamine-Induced Rapid Root Abscission in Azolla pinnata

Floating ferns of the genus Azolla detach their roots under stress conditions, a unique adaptive response termed rapid root abscission. We found that Azolla pinnata plants exhibited dose-dependent rapid root abscission in response to the polyamines spermidine and spermine after a substantial time lag (>20 min). The duration of the time lag decreased in response to high pH and high temperature w...

Protein Fractionation and in Vitro Digestibility of Azolla in Ruminants

A study was undertaken to evaluate the nutritive value and digestibility of Azolla in ruminants by in vitro techniques. The crude protein, crude fibre and ether extract contents were at a level of 21.37%, 12.5% and 2.3%, respectively. The neutral and acid detergent fibre levels were about 35.4 and 23.9%, respectively. The average in vitro dry matter digestibility, in vitro organic matter digest...

Altered nitrogenous pools induced by the azolla-anabaena azolla symbiosis.

The free amino acid and ammonia pools of Azolla caroliniana were analyzed by quantitative column chromatography on columns capable of separating all of the nitrogenous constituents normally found in physiological fluids. Comparisons were made of plants containing symbiotic algae and grown on nitrogen-free media, plants grown on media containing nitrate, and algae-free plants also grown on nitra...

Antimicrobial activity and identification of potential antimicrobial compounds from aquatic pteridophyte, Azolla microphylla Kaulf.

Azolla microphylla Kaulf. is an aquatic nitrogen fixing pteridophyte commonly found in aquatic habitats including paddy fields. Methanolic extract of the fronds of A. microphylla was subjected to partial purification by solvent partitioning with diethyl ether and ethyl acetate followed by hydrolysis, and further partitioning with ethyl acetate. The two fractions, thus obtained were tested for a...
